7 Steps to Choose the Right Supplier in China
Choosing the right supplier is one of the most important parts of importing from China. A good price is important, but product quality, communication, reliability and production capability are just as important.
Before confirming your order, here are seven steps worth checking.

1. Verify the Supplier
Check the company's basic information, including its business license, registered name, location and main business activities.
This gives you a clearer picture of the company you are dealing with.
2. Understand Who You Are Buying From
Your supplier may be a manufacturer, a trading company or a business working with several factories.
There is no single option that is always better. What matters is understanding who will actually produce or supply your products.
3. Make Your Requirements Clear
Before requesting a final quotation, prepare clear product requirements.
Include important details such as:
- Materials
- Size and dimensions
- Colors
- Quantity
- Packaging
- Branding or logo
- Required quality level
Clear requirements make quotations easier to compare and help prevent misunderstandings later.
4. Test a Sample When Possible
A sample gives you the opportunity to check the product before moving forward with a larger order.
Look at the materials, finishing, dimensions, functions and overall quality.
If customization is required, make sure the supplier clearly understands the changes needed for mass production.
5. Compare More Than the Price
Don't automatically choose the lowest quotation.
Compare suppliers based on price, MOQ, quality, production time, communication, customization options and payment terms.
A slightly higher price can sometimes be worthwhile if the supplier offers better quality and more reliable service.
6. Check the Factory
For larger or important orders, a factory check can provide additional information before you commit.
It can help you understand the production environment, available equipment and whether the supplier appears capable of handling your order.
7. Check the Goods Before Shipment
Once production is completed, consider inspecting the goods before they leave China.
The inspection can compare the finished products with the specifications agreed with the supplier and identify potential issues before international shipping.
